If you’ve been experiencing ongoing foot pain–heel pain, in particular–plantar fasciitis could be the culprit. Like many people, you may initially have assumed that you somehow hurt your foot without noticing and figured that it would get better on its own. When the pain becomes chronic, however, something is definitely amiss. When ignored, plantar fasciitis tends to worsen over time. Fortunately, there’s an effective, non-invasive way to treat it. Ft. Houston’s Foot Doc Sherman Nagler with Nagler Foot Center offers options that can rid you of chronic pain from plantar fasciitis once and for all.

What is Plantar Fasciitis?

The plantar fascia is a thick band of tissue that stretches along the bottom of the foot from the toes to the heel bone. It supports the arch of the foot by acting as a shock absorber. Unfortunately, when the plantar fascia is subjected to excessive tension, it may stretch too much and develop small tears. Over time, these tears can worsen. This leads to heel pain–typically a stabbing pain– that is most noticeable first thing in the morning or after long periods of standing or sitting.

Plantar fasciitis is most common in people between the ages of 40 and 60. Runners and others who subject their feet to a lot of stress tend to be susceptible. Other risk factors include wearing shoes without adequate support and obesity. In most cases, uneven weight distribution is ultimately the culprit.

Houston Podiatrist Sherman Nagler can assess your feet and prescribe foot orthotics that address your uneven weight distribution problems. In doing so, the undue pressure and tension that are being applied to the plantar fascia will be alleviated, allowing the tissue to heal safely, naturally and without surgery or other invasive procedures.
